The title: “Content regulation and its impact on Democracy”

It was part of the CPDP conference held in Brussels from 30 January to 1 February. On the panel with jochen: Marisa Jiménez Martín / Facebook, Anni Hellman / European Commission and Aleksandra Kuczerawy / Centre for IT & IP Law at KU Leuven.

The session was moderated by Guillermo Beltrà / Access Now and chaired by Joris Van Hoboken / Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB) / University of Amsterdam.

Jochen’s talk centred on various research activities and projects in which Deutsche Welle has been involved since 2013 and that have dealt with the topic of verification, starting with REVEAL, followed by InVID and leading to WeVerify. Also mentioned and discussed in the talk: TrulyMedia, the platform for collaborative verification of digital content (developed with a Google DNI grant and operated as a public-private partnership between Deutsche Welle and ATC.)

TrulyMedia will be further enhanced by components and features to be developed in WeVerify. Furthermore, it forms the basis of collaboration in the SOMA initiative that aims to provide the European Observatory against Disinformation.
